The Silent Cinema Returns to the Skokie Theatre

The Silent Film Society of Chicago, in partnership with the Skokie Theatre Music Foundation, is proud to present a series of silent films  at the Skokie Theater. The Skokie Theater originally opened in 1915 as the Niles Center Theater and has recently been transformed into an incredible state-of-the-art live music and theater venue. The Silent Film Society is honored to be a part of the Skokie Theater's programming in 2008 to bring several silent films into an intimate setting.

The series schedule is as follows:

April 25 - "Cobra" starring Rudy Valentino and Nita Naldi
May 16 - "Down to the Sea in Ships" with Clara Bow and Raymond McKee
Sept. 5 - "The Marriage Circle" with Florence Vidor, Monte Blue and Marie Prevost
Oct. 31 - "Nosferatu" starring Max Schreck and Gustv Von Wangerhiem

Each screening begins at 8:00 p.m., and Jay Warren will provide live photoplay accompaniment. See the flyer for details about each film and to order tickets.

The Silent Film Society of Chicago is dedicated to preserving the silent film heritage by bringing it to today's audiences through its proper presentation. With 80 percent of all silent film prints gone forever, the Society's goal is to heighten public awareness to expedite film preservation. In addition to silent film screenings, the Society's ongoing projects include a field trip program for children in grades 5 through 12 called Discovering the Silent Cinema, as well as its highly acclaimed Silent Summer Film Festival.

This project is partially supported by a City arts I grant from the city of Chicago dept. of cultural affairs and the Illinois arts council, a state agency.
